My family has always enjoyed coming here. We have a favorite spot that is very secluded from other sites and has plenty of room for multiple tents.
Horrible experience when we first arrived. I booked a reservation a week in advance as I knew I couldn't get up there early enough to get one of the so-called "walk in" sites. The camp managers did not post "reserved" on our lot. We arrived and someone was in our spot. The main man was drunk and I tried to explain that I had reserved it and even paid extra to do so. I tried to show him my receipt and he said I was lying. He had not even paid for the site. I went and looked for the manager at 3 different lots and nobody was at any of them. When I finally found one and explained the situation, he said he had things to do and he would go talk to the people when he was done. I asked how long and he said an hour. Long story short. The man and his family wouldn't leave my site. He had NO intent to ever pay for that site. The manager ended up giving him a free site (moved him to a different site) and free fire wood!! My kids and I got into our site at 5:15 (3 hours after check-in time at 2)! On our last walk before leaving, we met 3 families that had parked in sites that were already reserved but not labeled as such. They really need more management up there and people need to read the rules! Check-out time is at 1:00 yet we had the next reserved family circling our road starting at 8:00 am until we left. Not a very peaceful experience! Make sure to reserve your spots WEEKS ahead of time so these "managers" can get organized enough to post your name on the site. Also, if a reservation is Cancelled, it most likely will never be made available again because the internet team doesn't seem to communicate very quickly to the camp managers. All that said, it was a nice lot and had clean bathrooms (for being outhouses). Good Luck! :D
My favorite campground in AF Canyon. If you don't have a reservation on the weekend, don't bother trying to find an open spot. Beautiful views, nice trail nearby, and the creek is relaxing.
Easy car camping with partly to fully secluded sites. It is nice to find a CG that doesn't pack you in like sardines.
Can be tough to get a reserved campsite, but there's a handful of walk-in campsites you can try to snag. It's a great campground with amazing views, close to a few reservoirs and lots of off-roading, hiking, and the like, and some of the large group sites are AMAZING! Just tricky getting a spot.
